Blinds vs Shades: Which Is The Right For You?

Custom window blinds and window shades are two different types of window coverings, but they both serve the same purpose: to cover an opening or window. Blinds work better for interior rooms and sunrooms, while shades are great for covering large windows in two stories.

The main difference between these is the way they are made. Shades are flat, room-darkening panels of soft fabric that sit on top of a window and block out light. On the other hand, blinds are structured, decorative window covers made with a rod-like bar across the bottom instead.

Get To Know The Features Of Blind And Shades

Shades and Blinds come in a range of different styles, materials, fabrics, and functionality. Each one of them has something that fits the area that you want. If you want to get to know the features shades and blinds have, here are a number of factors to consider:

  • Light control:
Blinds offer the most versatile light control, and you can light the slats to direct where the flight lands and the amount of light that enters. On the other hand, window shades are a better option if you want to darken or diffuse light in a room.
  • Privacy: Window Shades and Blinds offer privacy by darkening the view from the outside, though there is a little nuance in this functionality. Blinds can be angled in a strategic way, allowing in light but blocking sightlines.
  • Cleaning: Window shades are easily cleaned using a vacuum cleaner. Window blinds require the occasional dusting with a soft cloth or even a quick vacuuming.
  • Safety: Blinds and window shades both use a cord, although window blinds have a motorization option, which is an advantage for those with pets or small children.
  • Insulation: Different types of shades have excellent insulation by blocking the sun’s rays and keeping your home cooler. Cellular window shades are commonly known to be very energy efficient. Blinds allow more airflow than window shades which makes them poor insulators, generally against heat loss.
